Public speaking is the most commonly reported fear among the American public according to WebMD.  Most of us have a memory or two or three stored away of a botched oral report or an embarrassing moment speaking in front of a group.  Some may even have experienced a full blown panic attack with sweaty palms, a rapid heart rate and an out of control mind full of racing, desperate thoughts.
